    Committed to Trusting God

“There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it is so, our God whom we serve can deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” – Daniel 3:12-18

Have you ever been in a situation whereby you feel you are at the end of the crossroad of your life? This is the time to fully lay your trust in God. At this time, it may seem nothing is working in your favor. Sometimes, you may feel like being able to achieve some cogent things in life but in the end, your strength fails. 1 Samuel 2:9b says “for by strength shall no man prevail.” Hence, total trust in God is the only option.

The three Hebrew young men in the above scripture, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were taken into the government of Babylon during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar. They made up their minds to not worship any god besides God as they refused to bow down to the image which the king erected. The penalty for disobeying the king’s command was that they would be cast into the fiery furnace. Hence, the king gave them the last chance to obey his command even in his presence or otherwise be thrown into the furnace. These three men believed and trusted God to deliver them during their trying time. They convincingly declared that even if God did not deliver them, their commitment to trusting God would never change.

Trusting God does not mean trusting Him when things go the way you expect or when you have all the answers to your requests. Trusting God means following Him no matter what you face – when you are threatened and faced the fiery furnace of life. The three Hebrew men’s story is a good example of resolute trust in God. Not minding what the outcome could be, they were committed to their faith. Their act of commitment made the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, recognize the Lordship of God over heaven and earth.

God is ever faithful to His words. His ways are different from our ways. He uses methods that are beyond human understanding to rescue His children. His approach to delivering His people is always supernatural. Therefore, we should be committed and faithful in our trust in Him for He will surely intervene.

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

Rest in God’s understanding, surrender totally to His plans, and be committed to trusting Him. He will stand for you as the readily available help in times of trouble (Psalms 46:1).
