WE ALL STUMBLE IN MANY THINGS_

For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. – James 3:2 ASV

As we strive toward our journey to heaven, we will encounter various challenges that may cause us to stumble. The enemy is always watching for our weaknesses, but we have a supportive group of witnesses who encourage us to overcome discouragement and persist in our faith. According to James 3:2, we may stumble in many ways, but those who do not stumble in their words are considered perfect. We stumble in three ways: through our words, thoughts, and actions.

Our words can reflect our negative emotions, such as anger, pride, and contempt, which do not bring glory to God. We need to be mindful of evil thoughts that can lead to sinful actions. However, we have the power to reject these thoughts and choose to act in accordance with God’s will.

Our actions and words stem from our thoughts, regardless of how brief they may be. We can refuse to act on any wrong thoughts in our hearts by saying “no” to bad thoughts and choosing to act right. According to Titus 2:11-12, God’s grace instructs us to give up ungodly living and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this world.

When we stumble, our attitude should be to repent quickly and sincerely, not give in to discouragement, and look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, for strength. We should receive His grace to stand firm in our faith and finish our race strong. Let us pray for forgiveness and the strength to persevere. Amen.
