The Redemptive Provision of Spiritual Sight

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, Luke 4:18

We are introduced to the ministry of Jesus Christ with a distinct and specific mandate, one of which covers man’s full restoration of what was lost from the garden days; the serpent made man lose his spiritual sight through disobedience. Still, Christ came with a redemptive provision and benefits through his obedience.

One of these redemption provisions and benefits is the recovery of sight for the blind.  The recovery of sight involves the enablement to see as God sees with a superlative gaze on the invisible rather than the physical. Physical sight is different from spiritual sight. As humans, our vision is limited to physical situations and experiences. But as children of God, we are spiritual beings, empowered to see from the spiritual viewpoint.

A good example was the experience of the servant of Prophet Elisha in 2King 5 when many soldiers came to arrest the prophet. The prophet’s servant could not see the multitude of angels surrounding them, which the prophet saw. The prophet was calm and confident because he could see what was going on in the realm of the spirit. Our fears and trembling will not stop until we see things clearly from the spiritual perspective.

Similarly, a woman called Hagar, in Genesis 21, was in the wilderness with her dying son but could not see a well of water near them until the angel of the Lord opened our sight. Therefore, a physical vision does not rule out spiritual blindness. The ability to see with spiritual eyes is what Jesus presented in His mission statement according to Luke 4: 18.

The redemptive provision is the release of spiritual sight to humanity through accepting Jesus, the son of God and the atonement for our sins. When we surrender our lives to Jesus, the first miracle we experience is seeing things from a spiritual perspective. We see sins as God sees it, righteousness as God sees it, holiness as God defines it. We also see all the divine provisions, healings, deliverance, abundant life and promotions just as God offers them to us. With this new vision, we can confidently enjoy the blessings of God and remain fearless in a world filled with terrors.

A restored sight is a major part of the provisions of Christ when he died at Calvary and was resurrected on the third day. He gave us the privilege to see things just as they are in the sight of God. With this divine sight, we can understand God’s plan for our lives and walk in His will.

Today, my prayer is that you will recover your spiritual sight in Jesus’ name. The power of redemption will shine God’s light on your eyes such that you will see things as God wants you to see them.
