    IN TIME OF CRISIS_

“Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God and believe also in me ” – John 14:1

The above verse of the scriptures was the words of Jesus to His disciples the night before His crucifixion.

Imagine what will be going on in the minds of the disciples as Jesus made the above statement, His arrest and crucifixion happened right before their very eyes. The man in whom they put their hopes and trust is taken away. They forsook all they had including families and businesses to follow Him, and it looks like there’s nothing to show for their sacrifices. All of these are enough to break them.

However, Jesus told them “Let not your heart be troubled”. This should be our first reaction in times of crisis. Our first reaction to any difficult time can determine if we will overcome it or not.

Sometimes, we first allow our emotions to control our actions in difficult times. At this time, we fail to think about God and His plans for us. Little did we realize that putting God first and guarding our hearts with the peace that comes from God is what prevents total defeat. There are so many things in the world that can bring about despair and discouragement but the worst defeat anyone can experience is the one that breaks us from within.  Hence, if we will not give in to fear and hold on to our faith, God can turn any situation around.

We can control our response to any situation we face. 1 Samuel 30:6  shows David’s response in a trying time. And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. David controlled his response; we also can do the same. His response was to seek God’s counsel and direction. When we are built up in God’s word we can withstand any storm and that which the enemy meant for evil will work to our advantage.

Our assurance of victory comes from the word of God. If David had not encouraged himself in the Lord, his men would have killed him and he would have never become the king of Israel.

A wise man once said, instead of telling God how big your problem is, tell your problem how big your God is.  We live victoriously in this world by standing firm on our conviction about God and His word. Glory to God!

So many people have endured unspeakable things, yet they never denied their faith because the Holy Spirit strengthens and comforts us. We are never alone! God is faithful to keep us through those trying times.

Therefore, when trials come, seek God’s guidance, follow his instructions, have strong faith in Him, and never let your heart be troubled
