How Familiar are You with God?

HOW FAMILIAR ARE YOU WITH GOD

“Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace; Thereby good will come to you.” – Job 22:21

And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good. Deut 10:12-13

I love the song, ‘draw me close to you, never let me go, I lay it all down again, to hear you say that I’m your friend, You are my desire, no one else would do, Nothing else can take your place, to feel the warmth of your embrace, Help me find the way, Bring me back to you.’

Another song I cherish so well is ‘You’re all I want, you’re all I’ve ever needed you’re all I want to help me know you are near.’

It is so sweet to be in close fellowship with Jesus, to know Him, to hear the word from His mouth and to obey Him. This is eternal life John 17:3. There is no life that is full of glory and calmness than a life of constant and continual fellowship with Jesus Christ. It is the sweet and most wonderful life you can ever imagine. Even in times of challenges, such life will be still, at peace and continue to flourish in God’s purpose Psalm 1:1-3 says This is the reality of everyone that prioritizes fellowship with Jesus above all other things.

On the other hand, there are some who feel so familiar with  Jesus Christ, they are familiar with Him due to a long-term relationship they have with Him. They believe to know ‘all’ about Him and act in such a way that they are independent of Him. This is a very dangerous mindset, it is a position that attract the wrath of God and at the end leads to destruction. This was the path the children of Israel trod when they said, ‘though the Lord has spoken, but we will not do it’ Jer 44:16.

This is the same position prophet Eli chose that made him speak carelessly about God in 1 Sam 3:13 Then Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD. Let Him do what seems good to Him.

It is essential that we check the intent of our hearts regularly to ensure we reference and give God the honour due to Him.

However, We must not allow any form of dishonor to arise from our hearts to the Lord. Our daily interaction and communion with Jesus Christ must be from a pure, respectful, contrite and humble heart. A heart that is willing and ready to say YES to Him and His will at all times.

This is the way of peace which brings God’s glory and blessings upon all who honor Him.
