Godly Character
Character is the unique feature that makes a person different from others. It consists of the moral qualities and standards, principles, values, and code of conduct that guide an individual’s behaviour. A person’s character can either be godly or ungodly. The godly character will aid your journey in life. Character flaws are capable of limiting the grace of God in the life of man. A man can also establish a covenant relationship with God through godly character. Abraham became the friend of God due to his godly character.
In Matthew 5: 3-9, Jesus stated major godly characters and the blessings they attract. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God”.
Godly character is exhibited by those who belong to God. The only place where we learn to develop godly character is at the feet of Christ. He asked us to come and learn of Him if we will find rest for our soul. Godly character entails pleasing God in the way we think, speak and live daily. It attracts God’s favour and blessings to us. Developing a godly character takes total submission to God and determination to please Him at all costs. Those who live to please God are continuously focused on doing things that have eternal value and jealously guarding their soul against the contaminations of this present evil world.
The most secure way of developing godly characters is through constant feeding on God’s word and conforming to the image of Christ, who is our perfect example in pleasing God. The word of God is living and full of energy, and like a two-mouthed sword, it penetrates to the very core of our being. The word of God reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts and can mould us into his image
Then, all of us reflect the glory of the Lord with uncovered faces; and that same glory, coming from the Lord, who is the Spirit, transforms us into his likeness in an ever greater degree of glory. 2Co 3:18
The word of God is the Life of God. When the nature and the life of God are imparted on us, we become God’s representatives on earth, and He can entrust us with things of eternal value.
