Do You Want to Get Well?

DO YOU WANT TO GET WELL_

“And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” – John 5:5-6

There was a pool in Jerusalem known as Bethesda. This pool is known for working miracles whenever the angels of the Lord come to trouble the pool.  Right there was a man at this same pool for a long period of thirty-eight years. Interestingly, Jesus Christ came to Jerusalem during this particular period. Jesus Christ getting to the pool asked the man with infirmity a question that may sound to a layman as insensitive or funny.

Hmm… Sounds quite insensitive you would think, right? Someone is obviously in need of help or deliverance and here, we see Jesus taking His time to ask the man if he wanted to be made well. Jesus knew the importance of the question He asked. Some people have been in a particular situation for a long time, such that they’ve adapted to it and they don’t remember life without that situation. Some feel that they’ve been managing it, so they can continue to deal with it. Some paralyzed people might be more comfortable with others giving them money and doing stuff for them. They’re even afraid that if they get healed, they’ll have to do all the work themselves and earn a living. So it’s worth asking, “do you want to be healed?”

Until you’re tired of a situation, you may never get out of it. If you don’t say no, the devil will keep saying yes. Don’t assume that God or everyone knows that you’re fed up with the unpleasant condition. You have to start your deliverance journey first by crying out, just like blind Bartimaeus Luke 18:38 “And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.”

Beloved, it doesn’t matter how long you’ve suffered that ailment or unpleasant condition. The paralytic had been in that condition for a long time. If Jesus delivered him, He can also deliver you. The question is “do you want to get well?”

Action Point: Open your mouth and let God know that you want to get out of that situation. Take the step of faith in whatever instruction the Lord gives you.
