Shining as a Light
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16.
Light is a very important thing that illuminates, gives insight, directs, etc. The opposite of light is darkness. Most things done on earth are done in the light. Light is good. It exposes things that are hidden. It exposes secrets. It gives insight into what to do at times. Light enlightens and reveals things as they are. God wants us to be like that. People can only do a few things when it is night, for night cometh when no man can work.
Christians are the light of the world. Jesus Christ, the light of the world, is living inside of us, so, we must radiate that light that is in us through our lifestyle. God wants our lives to be shining for Him. We shine for Jesus when we are good to our neighbours, care for the needy and show love to everyone around us, including our enemies.
Jesus wants every Christian to reflect Him in good works and through our lifestyles as He did when He was physically on earth. God wants our lives to radiate His glory. Good works are the attributes of a person who is shining the light of God. That is, as the light of the world, we should be full of good works.
Matthew 5:16 says Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven. As Christians, we need to show some love, kindness, and goodness to people around us and even people that are far away from us. Our good works as Christians are very important. We need to give generously to people that are in need like widows, orphans, and others, especially people in the household of faith.
As a shining light, we need to give ourselves to the work of God for people to benefit from our service unto God. Our lives should so much reflect Christ so that when people see us they can find Jesus in us and they could boldly say that we are Children of God.
So, let our lives reflect Jesus in fullness! I pray that God will help us to live as light indeed in every area of our lives in this present world in Jesus’ name.
