Moving on in God
“And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground. And all Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord. And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.” – 1st Samuel 3:19-21
“And Samuel did that which the Lord spake and came to Beth-lehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?” – 1st Samuel 16:4
Samuel was a prophet in Israel who had a good relationship with God till his death. Samuel had an encounter with God when he was with prophet Eli and never remained in the position of a baby whereby someone needs to tell him what to do whenever God is speaking to him but he rather grew, to the level of hearing from God and he kept moving in God. He was never satisfied with the level he was but he was concerned about his growth in God. We could see this from the anchor Scripture how the Bible says he grew, the Lord was with him and he did whatever the Lord told him.
In like manner, when you obey the first call in believing in Christ Jesus as the only son of God and become an heir in the kingdom of God, you are expected not to remain in the position of a baby but rather press forward, grow and move on in God. 1st Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.
You cannot afford to be static, remaining in the position of a baby in your walk with God. God has a record of when you got saved and how you are moving in Him. Hence, it is dangerous to live your human life under divine rejection, for there is a disappointment in the heart of the Father when He expects you to be producing fruits for Him and you are not. There is a great expectation of heaven over your life and also is it for yourself which you must not fail?
However, the only way to keep moving on in God and stay ahead of the Devil is by staying in line with God and doing His will. The anchor scripture says And Samuel did that which the Lord spake, he was walking with God and God continued speaking to him till his old age, he never remained in the same position but he kept his relationship with God intact.
There are specific times and seasons in life that may come in your life where things are not going as expected, this is the period to develop more intimacy with God. This is when you feel lonely or have an alone season in your life. These waiting periods are times when God wants you to dig deep into Him and keep moving in His realms. It may be a season of singleness (not married) it could be a time of unemployment, utilize these seasons well, build and develop a strong spirit in these seasons, for you to become what you behold every day of your life. Here is the question: Who do you behold in your life? Is it God, man, or Satan?
You can say this affirmatively: I will behold the right things always.
Psalms 16:8 says I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. When you set the Lord before you always, you will not be moved or shaken.
God wants to empower you through the Holy Spirit to live a Christ-directed life, a life useful for heavenly and earthly purposes. This can only be achieved when you keep moving on in God.
How do you keep moving on in God?
1. Develop a daily prayer life. (John 15:7)
2. Read God’s Word daily. (Acts 17:11)
3. Obedience to God and the Holy Spirit is important. (John 14:21)
4. Preach the Gospel with your life and words. (Mathew 4:19)
5. Trust God for your life always. (1Peter 5:7)
6. Trust the Holy Spirit to direct and empower you daily. (Galatians 5:16-17, Acts 1:8)
In conclusion, God communicates with you always, your life must be right with God to hear what He says per time and season and for you to know His Will.
Prayer: Lord, help me to focus on the right things in this season of my life and create in me a fresh hunger for the things of the Spirit in Jesus’ name. Amen
