    DISCOVER THE TREASURES IN YOU

Gen.39:1-4 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither. And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.”

People often get worried, confused, and sometimes depressed when they are unable to achieve their desired goals. Interestingly, the treasure needed to achieve these goals may not be far-fetched. But without discovering them, they could never utilize them.

    What is the treasure?

Treasure is a collection of valuable things; accumulated wealth; a stock of money, jewels, etc.; something considered to be precious. Treasure in the context of our Bible reference was a human, Joseph, a man filled with an excellent spirit from God. When you have a person as a treasure, it settles many things in your life both now and in the future. But there is something strange about treasure. It is often hidden and you need divine revelation to discover it. In the case of Joseph, how do you think Potiphar could make Joseph the head of his house, a mere slave imported from another country? Didn’t Potiphar have children, or what about the Egyptian citizen working with him? Potiphar was smart enough to recognize the uniqueness of Joseph. He saw the presence of God in his life and how he would succeed in all that he did. Hence, Potiphar chose Joseph to govern his house because He was a treasure despite his background. A treasurable person may have a very demeaning background, yet, when we find them, they are like gold dug out of the mud. However, it takes a humble and observant person to recognize people beyond their background or social class.

David, a leader from a humble background, did not hesitate when he discover some treasurable people. Let us look at what happened in 1 Samuel 22:1-2 KJV

“David, therefore, departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him. And everyone that was in distress, and everyone that was in debt, and every discontented one, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men”.

Although these people that came to David had lots of trouble going on in their lives, David did not see them as debtors, discontented, or distressed men but as treasures. He maximized their potential and these four hundred men became mighty men of valor for him. They were the soldiers who got him his throne.

When you discover the treasure in people around you, you will look beyond their limitations, background, current challenges, and whatever troubles they may be going through. You will discover their potential, skills, intelligence, vigor, valor, wisdom, and most importantly, the presence of God in their lives.

Jesus is the greatest treasure anyone could ever find. People who find Jesus and engage in fellowship with him would forever enjoy eternal peace. If you’re not in partnership, fellowship, or communion with Him, you will be wasting a treasure. Anyone who discovers this great treasure will find the needed help to fulfill destiny.

Have you found Jesus? Finding him guarantees the salvation of your soul and this will be the beginning of your insight to discover other treasures you are blessed with. Take the first step by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior today. Call on Him to forgive your sins and make you a new creation. Then, you become a treasure and you begin to discover other treasures surrounding you.
