Diligence
The Bible unequivocally teaches us that diligence is the key to achieving success. Proverbs 22:29 affirms that a diligent person will stand before kings and not before mean men. Similarly, Daniel in Daniel 6:3 was preferred over presidents and princes because of his excellent spirit and unwavering diligence. These verses leave no room for doubt that diligence is an indispensable requirement for success, irrespective of one’s talent or abilities.
Proverbs 12:24 further emphasizes that the hand of the diligent shall bear rule, while the slothful shall be under tribute. In simpler terms, those who work hard and are diligent will be in charge and excel, while those who are lazy will become servants.
Diligence is fundamental in all aspects of life, whether it’s in one’s career, spiritual life, or academic pursuits. It takes hard work and unwavering commitment to move forward and achieve success. Deuteronomy 15:10 reminds us that God blesses the works of our hands, and that includes being diligent in our endeavours.
While prayer is essential, it cannot replace hard work. Even Jesus was diligent in His Father’s business while on Earth, as seen in John 5:17 and John 9:4.
As children of God, we must also strive to be diligent in all that we do. This includes being disciplined, consistent, and determined. Lazy behaviour and a desire for quick and easy success will not lead to true success. True success requires diligence, wisdom, and hard work. Let us ask for God’s grace to be diligent in all areas of our lives and not be lazy physically, spiritually, or academically.
