The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT)
One of God’s most evident characteristics is His never-ending mercy. All through the scriptures, we always find that God’s mercies never run out. The psalmist sang it continuously while praising God in his psalms. Psalm 100:5 “For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endureth to all generations.” Psalm 106:1, Psalm 118:1.
Back to our anchor scriptures, the preceding verses showed the awful situation of the writer Jeremiah. His peace was stripped away, he was at a serious loss, and he had even forgotten what prosperity was, but he dared to hope in the mercies of God (vs 21). He remembered that God’s mercies will never cease because they begin afresh each morning. Note that the scripture says “mercies”. There are plenty of them and they are always fresh every day. As we wake up to see the new day, fresh mercies are available to carry us through the day. It does not matter if your condition is worse than that of the writer’s, dare to hope in God’s mercies. This word is for you, who is probably on the verge of losing it all. The fact that you are still breathing is evidence of fresh mercies made available to you by Jehovah God.
So many virtues and graces are contained in God’s mercies- divine help, deliverance, favor, healing, lovingkindness, salvation, provisions, preservation, protection, etc. All these are fresh every day, so they can never expire.
The Bible says in Matt 6:34 that today’s trouble is enough for today. In the same vein, God’s mercies are enough to help us overcome each day.
Finally, The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. (Psalm 147:11). DARE TO HOPE!
