According to the Collins English Dictionary, emotion is a feeling such as happiness, love, fear, anger, or hatred, which can be caused by the situation that you are in or the people you are with. It is an expression based on your feeling.
God gave us emotion and intended that we should be in control of our emotion. This is because whatever we allow our emotion take us through has consequences- good or bad.
The state of our emotion does not solely depend on what happens around us, but how we respond to it.
God admonishes us in Philippians 2 : 5 ‘Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus’.
It was written of Jesus. ‘He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. And they made His grave with the wicked; But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth. Isaiah 53 : 7,9
Everyone at one point or the other has had experiences that brought negative emotions such as anger, hatred, intense resentment, jealousy, envy, and so on. However we have Jesus, who is our high priest, who faced negative life circumstances with positive attitude. He is our help in handling negative emotions as much as we are ready to receive his help.
Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
If you are battling with a negative emotion, don’t live in denial, don’t blame others but seek help from Jesus. He will help you and give you succor to bear through without you going into sin.
