Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings- Psalms 17:8
The Psalmist\’s prayer in Psalms 17 vs 8 is significant in our current world considering the insecurity and pandemic situation. Amidst all these disastrous experiences, it is essential to look up to the Almighty God for protection.
King David, the author of this psalm, did not just ask God to protect him but asked that God should keep him as the apple of His eye.
How does God keep the apple of His eye? It is difficult to tell, but we can know based on our understanding of how we protect our eyes from being injured. We do guide them jealously because they are very important to us. Inferring from our human experience, we can metaphorically say that our security is sure in him as God carefully protects us.
God keeps us secured, no matter what is happening around us. He hides us under His wings from afflictions, calamities, diseases, and all forms of catastrophe.
Can a man be the apple of God\’s eye? The answer is yes. In Romans 8:32, Paul described God\’s love by saying, \” He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?\” If God could give up his son to keep us from spiritual destruction, that is enough evident to show how special we are to him
He love us, all we need to do is to embrace him so that we can be covered from evil. He would give His angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways Psalms 91:11.
Here are the questions I have for you:
• Do you see yourself as the apple of God\’s eye?
• Do you realize how important you are to God?
• Do you know how much He loves you?
• Do you know He is always ready to keep you under His wings and protect you from all perils?
If your answers to these questions are affirmative, then you have nothing to fear. If your answers show uncertainty, you need to develop close relationship with Him. Do not stand on the fence. Let God be your all in all. Keep your trust in Him, for He would keep you as the apple of His eye.
